Intensive Care

The latest technology and highly trained and compassionate staff make our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) one of the best in the area.

In Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, you receive your care from highly experienced, qualified and caring staff.

Intensive Care

The Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an eight-bed specialty unit with its own nursing staff, medications and equipment to provide seriously ill patients with maximum medical attention around the clock. This unit cares for adult and pediatric patients who require extra care and very close observation.

To assist patients in their recovery, certain equipment is standard. Each patient is placed on a heart monitor to assure prompt detection and treatment of any disturbance in heart rate and/or rhythm. Blood pressure and oxygen saturation can be monitored on the same screen. This monitored picture is visible from the patient’s room and the nurses’ station.

Staff Requirements

Each ICU staff nurse must prove proficient in monitoring invasive lines and administering life-saving medications. He or she is also requiredto be certified currently in Cardiopulmonary Life Support (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Some of our nurses are certified or pursuing certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN).

Patients in ICU should not receive flowers and because of dietary restrictions, please check with a nurse before bringing candy, food or fruit baskets. Cards are always welcome.
