Peace of Mind Through Planning

(Honesdale, PA November 2, 2026)…The Peace of Mind Through Planning community event last week, sponsored by Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) and the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation (WMHF) brought to light essential considerations for safeguarding your healthcare and financial affairs before an emergency strikes and your final wishes as well.

The session covered important issues, provided valuable information, and triggered some very relevant questions. The panel of presenters included WMH Social Services Manager Mary Burgio-Terpak, local attorney Tim Barna, Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell and local Funeral Directors John Brennan and Brendan Murray.

Several dozen attendees listened as each professional gave insights and scenarios on what should or can happen. Topics included: having someone designated to speak for you if something suddenly or permanently happens, having your insurance card easily accessible and an up-to-date medication card, legal protections, and HIPPA waivers. It was conversational, friendly, and even with some light hearted humor.

“This was inspiring,” one woman said, “there are things I haven’t thought of.” Preplanning prevents emotional guesswork and financial stress for family members during unexpected events. “The presenters were excellent and we’re very pleased with the turnout,” explained Martha Wilson, Legacy Circle chair, WMHF. “Another event is being planned.” For more information visit wmh.org or email wmhf@wmh.org.
