Wayne Memorial Hospital receives Get With The Guidelines Stroke Quality Achievement Awards
Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) has once again received the American Heart Association Gold Plus Get With The Guidelines Stroke Quality Achievement Award and the Rural Stroke Silver Destination Award for the second year. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment as a Primary Stroke Center (PSC) ensuring stroke patients receive stabilizing evidenced based stroke care and essential protocols for acute stroke management.
WMH earned the award by meeting Get With The Guidelines® Gold Achievement Award measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a defined level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the latest evidenced and research based recommended guidelines for use of medications and other stroke treatments with the goal to improve patient care and outcomes in the community we serve. Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing their health, get a follow-up visit scheduled, as well as other care transition interventions.
WMH also received the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Role Award. To qualify for this recognition hospitals must meet certain quality measures. Target: Type 2 Diabetes addresses heart disease and stroke risk factors in patients with Type 2 Diabetes. The AHA helps to assure health care organizations align with the latest evidenced and research-based guidelines when hospitalized due to stroke.
“Receiving these GOLD and SILVER awards from the American Heart Association reflects our commitment and dedication of so many professionals across Wayne Memorial Hospital to empower patients to achieve healthier, longer lives,” said Michele Churney, Manager of Outpatient Services at WMH. “For our community, it means patients could feel confident knowing they have access to high-quality stroke care right here, close to home.”
Wayne Memorial Hospital is proud to be a Certified Primary Stroke Center. This recognition is part of the American Heart Association’s ongoing work to improve heart and brain health and ensure quality care is available to patients no matter where they live.
