March is Social Work Month, which gives us the opportunity to appreciate the compassion, advocacy, and steady presence social workers bring to Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) patients, families, and care teams.
What makes our WMH Social Work team so special is not just their expertise, but their ability to offer support that fits each person’s needs. Whether it’s helping a patient access critical services, offering reassurance during uncertainty, or collaborating with providers to ensure the best outcomes, they are an essential part of the care experience.
“Our social workers are advocates, problem-solvers, and a source of strength for so many of our patients and families,” said Mary Burgio-Terpak, LCSW, Manager of the Social Work Department. “They bring empathy and dedication into every interaction, and I’m incredibly proud of the work they do each day to make a meaningful difference.”
Their presence elevates the level of care provided throughout the hospital. They remind us that healthcare is not just about treating conditions, it’s about caring for people.
This month, and every month, we are grateful for our social workers and the vital role they play in supporting our community.
