(Honesdale, PA, May 5, 2025)…Wayne Memorial Hospital’s glass concourse was the setting for the annual Wound Care Symposium in Honesdale, Wednesday April 30th. The event, coordinated by the Wayne Memorial Advanced Wound Care Center nursing staff, included supply vendors with products and services vital to wound care patients. They featured Negative therapy wound pumps, reactive air pressure redistribution cushions, protective skin barriers, skin substitutes and collagen dressings, compression therapy wraps, nutritional education, total contact casting, and IV antibiotics. Various displays highlighted methods and techniques used to treat patients with chronic and slow to heal wounds. Some even had games and gift cards were awarded to Joanne Neville, RN, Renee LaPoint, LPN, and Silvia Bonham, RN.
According to the National Institutes of Health, wounds that don’t heal for three months or more are called chronic wounds. Even a tiny tear in the skin can be difficult to heal. That can lead to pain and pose a risk for dangerous—or even deadly—infections. Wayne Memorial’s multi-disciplinary team is comprised of certified wound care providers and nurses that are knowledgeable in treating and healing chronic wounds. They support the patient and family through the healing process to optimize the patients’ ability to regain mobility and independence, reduce pain and the risk for infection, and improve their quality of life.
