WMH In-School Walking Program

(Honesdale, October 08, 2025)…Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) is once again partnering with local school districts to provide indoor heated, secure, and well-lit locations for area residents to go for an evening walk. The program runs from  October 14, 2025 through April 23, 2026; weeknights Monday through Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The hallways are open for walkers at the following schools when school is in session, unless cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen developments.

Damascus, Lakeside, and Preston Elementary Schools

Evergreen and R.D. Wilson Elementary Schools

Forest City Regional High School

Wallenpaupack South Elementary and Wallenpaupack Area High School

Western Wayne Middle/High School

If you have participated in the past and have a walking identification badge, you still need to complete a liability waiver and questionnaire to receive this year’s sticker. If you are new participant or lost your badge, you need to purchase an ID badge for $5.00 and also sign a liability waiver and questionnaire. For security purposes you must log in and out, each time you go for a walk in the school hallways. Please check log in times at each school.

“Walking is a beneficial activity to continue, regardless of the cold winter months. It helps improve bone strength and balance, reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, can improve mental health and, with a friend or family member, improves socialization,” says Carol Kneier, MS, RD, LDN, CDCES, co-organizer of the program and WMH Community Relations Manager.
