Wayne Co Food Pantry Pop Up Food Program at WMCHC

(Honesdale, May 9, 2023) …Wayne Memorial is pleased to announce another collaboration between a Wayne Memorial entity and the Wayne County Food Pantry!

As of April, Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers’(WMCHC) Outreach and Enrollment office is now a Wayne County Food Pantry Pop Up location. Located at 630 Park Street, Honesdale, the pantry is open 12 Noon to 4 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Pop Up Program is designed to help those who may not be eligible for the traditional Wayne County Food Pantry, but still can benefit from the support of having shelf stable food to supplement their home pantry. There are no income requirements.

WMCHC Outreach and Enrollment Coordinators Rebecca Mead and Kyle Davis reached out to Clarissa Wimmers, Wayne County Food Pantry, out of concern for people they assist.  The first shipment of 40 boxes of shelf-stable food was delivered last month and is being offered to people who express a need for food.

“Some people don’t have even the most basic products for daily living,” said Mead, “It breaks your heart, and we just want to do whatever we can to help.” Mead and Davis accept referrals from Wayne Memorial Hospital and WMCHC offices when immediate needs are identified.

“Our Pop Up pantry is open to all, you don’t have to be one of our clients,” said Mead, who added, “but if someone shows up who needs our help, we stand ready.” In addition to health insurance, the office assists with registration for LIHeap (energy assistance), SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Medicare Savings Programs.

The Wayne County Food Pantry also collaborates with Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Food Prescription Program.

The Outreach and Enrollment staff noted that due to occasional scheduling conflicts and holidays, their Pop Up Food Pantry hours may fluctuate. For up to date information, please call 570-251-6569 or 570-251-6554.
