(Honesdale, April 21, 2020)… Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 19-25, celebrates laboratory professionals and pathologists who play a vital role in healthcare, now and all year round. The lab at Wayne Memorial Hospital, certified by the American College of Pathologists, processes thousands of specimens a year, including those suspected of being COVID-19. Due to the ongoing national shortage of test supplies, Wayne Memorial uses its own lab, the state health department lab and Lab Corp, a commercial laboratory, for coronavirus analysis. But the hospital’s staff also analyzes specimens for many other diseases. Their work is key to diagnosis and ultimately treatment. The theme this year for their week is “Fellowship of the Lab, one team to diagnose them all.” And these workers, too, have been manning their posts since day one of the COVID-19 crisis—masks and all. In addition to the hospital lab, Wayne Memorial outpatient lab services also remain open at the Hamlin Family Health Center, the Carbondale Family Health Center and the Pike Medical Center.
