Our Pediatrics Unit

Wayne Memorial Hospital has a unit dedicated to Pediatrics when there are children who need hospitalization. The unit is staffed by registered nurses and nurse aides. Patient rooms are decorated with fun, child-oriented themes, and there is a "play room" at the end of the hallway with toys and books.

Open visitation 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Visitation with a pass 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

The Starlight Children's Foundation donated a Fun Center  which is available to all pediatric patients. Funds were raised by a parent whose child had been a patient in the unit.

Friends of another young person raised monies in the boy's memory to buy an "X-box 360" and appropriate games for the unit as well.

Young patient enjoys Fun Center

(Honesdale, February 20, 2009)…A new addition to Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Pediatric Department is helping some of the hospital’s youngest patients cope with a hospital stay.

The Fun Center™ mobile entertainment unit features a Nintendo Wii™ gaming system (customized for hospital use) with a flat-panel television and DVD player. Created by the Starlight Children’s Foundation with Nintendo of America, Fun Centers roll right up to the side of a hospital bed or anywhere in a hospital setting to help counter the isolation, restlessness and fear often experienced by sick children.

Three-year-old Lance J. Peak had fun in his hospital room recently playing Mario Baseball with his father, Lance R. Peak.
The child’s mother, Nicole Lahoda, said Lance “took his breathing treatment that we can never get him to take” while playing on the Fun Center™. “It’s a great distraction,” Mr. Peak added.
