Nurse Karen Doney Honored for 45 Years at WMH
(Honesdale, August 20, 2020)… “It’s been an amazing adventure!” That’s how Karen Doney, RN, describes her 45 years of employment with Wayne Memorial Hospital. Doney was honored by top management and presented with a bouquet of flowers outside the Home Health Department, where she works. The Honesdale mother of three, grandmother of two and step-grandmother of two more, says she’s met a lot of characters in her years at the hospital, both during her earlier stint inside the hospital and later in Home Health. And she’s come to know the territory well. “It’s been really unbelievable, even now out on the road. I’ve been all over Wayne and Pike Counties, even Susquehanna. I’ve had to move the cows out of the road and ride a lot of dirt back roads. I can tell you if you need four-wheel drive or not wherever you’re going.” Human Resources Director Bethany Fine asked Doney what her secret was to staying on the job so long. “Deep breaths,” said Karen with a smile, “roll your shoulders!”
CEO David Hoff praised Karen for her longevity and work ethic. “We’re lucky to have you. Thank you for your service.”
The presentation outside Home Health was in lieu of the hospital’s annual Service Awards ceremony which was cancelled in June due to COVID-19. Peggy Nolan, RN, who works in the Operating Room, also received flowers for her 40 years of service. Karen Jonas, RN, Betsy Ciaston, RN and Terri Henderson, Rehabilitation Services manager, were honored for 35 years of employment.
The hospital offers employees a choice of gifts at five year increments. This year, 104 employees were honored for their service.
