(Honesdale, January 6, 2012)…Up to 40% of people with diabetes may have depression at some point in their lives, according to the American Diabetes Association. Do medications for depression affect blood glucose levels? Probably not, say the experts, but just wondering about it could cause anxiety.

(Honesdale, January 3, 2012)…Wayne Memorial Hospital welcomed the first baby of the Year 2012 born in its New Beginnings Birthing Suites on January 2nd at 12:31am. Little Charles Rey weighed in at 8 lb., 2 oz. and stretched 19 inches long.

(Honesdale, December 21, 2011)…Obstetrician/Gynecologist Denise Viola, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, wasn’t on the job a week before she delivered her first baby, a boy, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Dr. Viola joined Women’s Health Center, part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers, earlier this month—and she “loves it, I love every aspect of my job.”

(Honesdale, December 20, 2011)… Congratulations to Jamie Whitaker, Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Employee of the Year 2011! Whitaker, who has worked at the hospital for 11 years, takes the title seriously and humbly.

(Honesdale, December 19, 2011)…Buff up your Charleston dancing skills and start looking for that perfect flapper dress! The Roaring Twenties are coming to Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront on Saturday, January 21, 2012. It’s this year’s theme for the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s 71st annual Mistletoe Ball.

(Honesdale, December 8, 2011)…After more than four decades in medicine, George Tietjen, MD, FACS, Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Chief of Staff is retiring. Certified in both general and vascular surgery, Dr. Tietjen has performed thousands of successful surgeries at Wayne Memorial since he came on board in 1975.

Carbondale Pediatric Center, a new office opened by Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers, holds an open house today from 3:30-5:30pm. Refreshments, giveaways, tours..at 150 Brooklyn Street, Carbondale, across from the high school.

(Honesdale, November 28, 2011)...Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Chief Hospitalist is featured prominently in two articles in the October issue of The Hospitalist Magazine. Lou O’Boyle, DO, FACP, FHM, discusses patient discharge procedures and bed management in “The Earlier the Better.” In a second article “Small-Town Tonic,” Dr. O’Boyle talks about how hospitalists help rural communities recruit and maintain primary care physicians.

(Honesdale, November 18, 2011)…Bruce Mackle has good friends. Twenty-eight of them contributed $100 each to acquire a leaf in his name on the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation’s Giving Tree in the hospital lobby. The funds help support the Foundation’s mission to provide and maintain healthcare services for the community now and into the future

 (Honesdale, November 21, 2011)… Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers is pleased to announce the opening November 30th of the Carbondale Pediatric Center in the Carbondale Professional Center, just across the street from Carbondale High School and Carbondale Area Elementary School. Alexander Pinsky, MD, a board-certified pediatrician with more than two decades of experience, is accepting new patients up to age 21.

(Honesdale, Pa, November 8th, 2011)… Hooray for Wayne Memorial’s many and diverse outpatient services, say hospital officials, “we tallied very impressive scores in patient satisfaction scores for the most recently published quarter, July – September 2011.”
