Honesdale VA Clinic & Senator Toomey
WMCHC recently signed an agreement with the Wilkes Barre Veterans Medical Center to open a VA clinic in the Honesdale Family Health Center. Primary care providers are expected to begin seeing veterans this month.
The veterans’ “Access to Care Through Choice” bill, a version of which was supported by Senator Toomey, allows veterans to seek private medical care if they have waited more than 30 days for a VA appointment or live more than 40 miles from a VA medical center. Wayne Memorial Hospital’s administrative team advocated for the use of the hospitals’ radiology, laboratory and other services as soon as possible.
The Senator also discussed, separately, Medicare reimbursement formulas and their direct effect on how Wayne Memorial Hospital is paid for care of Medicare patients. Senator Toomey is on the Senate Finance, Banking, Budget and Joint Economic committees.
The roundtable discussion included Wayne Memorial CFO Mike Clifford; WMCHC Executive Director Fred Jackson; Grants and Development and VA Outreach Manager Jack Dennis; Chief of Staff William Dewar, III, MD; Medical Staff President Scott Epstein, MD; Director of Patient Care Services Jim Pettinato, RN; Director of Ancillary Services James Hockenbury; Director of Human Resources Liz McDonald; Wayne Memorial Health Foundation Executive Director Rich Garman and Foundation Development Officer Sal Giglio. CEO David Hoff was out of town but contributed to the discussion beforehand. Public Relations Manager Lisa Champeau moderated the discussion.
