73rd Auxiliary Ball is Almost Here
The dinner-dance, which has a Kentucky Derby theme, will feature a mini-derby race, raffles and a prize for the most creative hat. Cocktails (cash bar) at 5:30 p.m. will be followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and dancing to the music of Groove Train at 8 p.m. Black tie and Kentucky Derby attire are optional.
Reservations are $80 per person and invitations can be requested by calling 570-226-3394.
The Gala Ball is the auxiliary’s largest fund raiser. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Women’s Imaging Center.
Established in 2006, the center provides mammograms, bone density testing and ultrasound services to women in a soothing, private and comfortable setting. In the past five years, the center has performed 22,976 mammograms, according to Robert Brzuchalski, the hospital’s imaging services manager. Of those, there were 370 with suspicious findings and 80 cancers were found, he said.
Breast cancer death rates have been declining in recent years in part due to earlier detection through screenings such as those performed at the Wayne Memorial Auxiliary Women’s Imaging Center.
