(Honesdale, February 20, 2009)…A new addition to Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Pediatric Department is helping some of the hospital’s youngest patients cope with a hospital stay.
The Fun Center™ mobile entertainment unit features a Nintendo Wii™ gaming system (customized for hospital use) with a flat-panel television and DVD player. Created by the Starlight Children’s Foundation with Nintendo of America, Fun Centers roll right up to the side of a hospital bed or anywhere in a hospital setting to help counter the isolation, restlessness and fear often experienced by sick children.
Three-year-old Lance J. Peak had fun in his hospital room recently playing Mario Baseball with his father, Lance R. Peak.
The child’s mother, Nicole Lahoda, said Lance “took his breathing treatment that we can never get him to take” while playing on the Fun Center™. “It’s a great distraction,” Mr. Peak added.
