(Honesdale, March 25, 2005)… The In-School Winter Walking Program has been extended to April 28th, almost a full month beyond its planned end date of March 31st. The reason? The winter isn’t really over. "Here it is the end of March, and it’s still cold and slippery outside," said Donna Decker, RN, Manager of Community Health Programs for Wayne Memorial Health Systems. Wayne Memorial runs the In-School Winter Walking Program in conjunction with area schools.



(Honesdale, March 23, 2005)… "I wish I had it done years ago," says Paul Thompson of Lake Ariel, "I could hardly walk before the surgery. Now I’m doing pretty good and I rarely take any pain-killers. I used to take them all the time." Thompson, 64, underwent a new minimally invasive procedure to have both his knees replaced last October. His doctor, orthopedic surgeon Dr William Jason (pictured), is offering a free presentation for the public on this new procedure...



    Members of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary distributed 215 colorful pansies on Good Friday, March 25th, to patients at the Hospital and to residents of Wayne Memorial long-term care facilities Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart and Wayne Delaware Manor in Beach Lake. (Honesdale, March 8, 2005)…"Our theme was ‘Shooting for the Stars’ and we came really close this year to actually reaching them!" beamed Jennifer Hoff, Co-chair of the Mistletoe Ball, an annual dinner dance run by the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The ball on February 26th at Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront in Tafton raised $14,455, almost double the money made the previous year. "We are so thrilled," said Hoff, "we made so much for the Hospital at a time...



(Tafton, February 26, 2005)…"We're here for your health today and tomorrow!" With those words, Wayne Memorial Hospital's Executive Director David Hoff kicked off the Hospital's first capital fundraising campaign since 1981. He made the announcement before 200 people gathered at the WMH Auxiliary's annual Mistletoe Ball at Ehrhardt's in Tafton. The campaign's target goal is $3,000,000 over the next three years.

(Honesdale, January 21, 2005)…Urologist Rafael Lopez, M.D. joins the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital and begins a fulltime practice in Honesdale February 2nd. Dr. Lopez told WMH officials that he’s very interested in coming to “a vibrant, growing area and a hospital that’s growing with the community.”



(HONESDALE, January 17, 2005)…“Staying fit during pregnancy is well worth the effort,” says New Beginnings Obstetrics Nurse Mary Ellen Rodgers, RN. “Not only does prenatal fitness enhance health during pregnancy, but it may ease labor and delivery and speed post partum recovery.” Beginning this month, Rodgers is offering a new exercise program for expectant mothers at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
