(Honesdale, April 26, 2007)… The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a group of more than 200 volunteers, set a new record this year. On April 21, at a volunteer luncheon at Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront in Tafton, Auxiliary offices handed over a check representing $80,000 to hospital officials: the most ever raised by Auxilians in one year. Hospital Chief Executive Officer David Hoff was awed.

(Honesdale, April 4, 2007)—“I never knew they did this,” said Gladys Ritzler as she finished up shopping recently in Honesdale. Ritzler and three other patients from the Good Shepherd-Wayne Memorial Inpatient Rehabilitation Center had been escorted to Kmart for an occupational therapy session. They weren’t just shopping. They were relearning life skills in a “real” setting.

(Honesdale, March 27, 2007)… For the past decade, Carol Kneier, a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator with Wayne Memorial Hospital, has been helping people not only live with diabetes but live well with the illness. Her next class starts Thursday, April 19th. It runs for four consecutive Thursdays at the Hospital, from 6:30-8pm.

If so, Wayne Memorial’s Hospice Team is looking for you! Volunteers are needed in every part of the Wayne Memorial service area—Wayne and Pike Counties in Pennsylvania and the Upper Delaware region of New York.



How about a paw-shake? Molly, a Golden Retriever, is being introduced to Albert Belknapp, a patient at the Good Shepherd-Wayne Memorial Inpatient Rehabilitation Center in Honesdale. (Honesdale, February 16, 2007)…If you have driven by Pediatric Practices of Northeastern Pennsylvania (PPNP) on Fair Avenue in Honesdale, you may have noticed a banner hanging out front announcing 30 years of providing pediatric care. PPNP is celebrating the milestone, along with the launch of its website, www.pediatricpractices.com, and the opening of a new office in Waymart.



(Honesdale, February 8, 2007)…Wayne Memorial Hospital’s cancer program has been awarded the highest accreditation given by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC): a three-year approval with commendation. Wayne Memorial is in an elite group. Less than half of the applying institutions (893) received a #1 overall rating.

(Honesdale, January 3, 2007)…The first patients to use the new Hospitalist Program at Wayne Memorial Hospital had nothing but praise for the program.  Joann Hudak was thrilled that Hospitalist physician Dr. Everton Clare was so available. “He’s seen me three times already, and I haven’t been in the hospital 24 hours yet! This program is a great idea.”



(Honesdale, January 2, 2007)…A lot of “numbers” came together at Wayne Memorial on the first day of the new year. Little Dalyla Knapp became the region’s first baby of 2007 when she arrived in the world at exactly 2:07am, weighing exactly 7 pounds, 2 ounces. To top if off, the Hawley infant also marked a milestone for her deliverer. Dalyla is the 600th child to be delivered by Certified Nurse Midwife ...
