Physician Assistant Joins Dr. McVeigh
"I chose Pulmonology as my elective for my rotations,” said Baumann, “because several of my family members suffered from lung disease, including my mother. I have known for a long time that I wanted to focus on Pulmonology.”

Baumann was born in Rahway, New Jersey but raised in the Allentown, Pennsylvania area. She recently earned her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at King’s College in Wilkes Barre, where she also completed her undergraduate studies in an accelerated Bachelor of Science program.
“I have only been at Dr. McVeigh’s office for a short time,” Baumann continued, “and I really love it. I see patients who can’t breathe very well and after we evaluate and treat them, they come back and tell us that they can run around with their grandkids. It’s so nice to see that we can make such an impact in the lives of our patients”.
Dr. McVeigh, director of the Sleep Disorders Center and Respiratory Care Services at Wayne Memorial Hospital, is pleased to have Baumann on board. “Megan is an intelligent, devoted and caring healthcare provider who has had an immediate impact on enhancing our delivery of patient care. Having Megan in our office full-time allows us to offer more patient appointments and to include same-day service which is a tremendous asset, especially given the expansion of the Sleep Lab. We are very excited to have Megan join our team,” said Dr. McVeigh, The Wayne Memorial Sleep Disorders Center currently has two beds; construction is underway to add two more beds by January 2010.
As a certified physician assistant, Baumann can take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and analyze lab tests and x-rays, prescribe medication and treat minor injuries—all under the supervision of a physician.
Dr. McVeigh’s practice is part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (CHC), which also offers primary care in Honesdale, Waymart, Lakewood and Lords Valley as well as behavioral health, dental health, women’s health and surgery services. All CHC sites are subsidized by federal monies and accept both private insurance and public assistance.
