(Honesdale, May 16, 2005)… If you suffer from lung-related or respiratory illnesses, appointments will soon be available locally with a doctor specially trained in pulmonology. Sean McVeigh, M.D. joins the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital on June 20th.  Dr. McVeigh, board-certified in internal medicine, is board-eligible in pulmonology (anticipated November 2005) and in sleep medicine.  “Both of these fields of medicine have seen great advances in recent years,” says Dr. McVeigh, “and I look forward to helping patients in the Wayne Memorial service area.”

Dr. McVeigh says he’s also looking forward to coming “home.” The father of four is a graduate of the University of Scranton with family in Wayne and Lackawanna Counties. “My wife and I are very happy about being near family again,” McVeigh adds. He hopes to settle down “somewhere between Waymart and Honesdale.”

Dr. McVeigh, who has been practicing in Texas, completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was not only in the top third of his class but also class president from 1993-94. After serving in the Department of Pulmonary/Sleep Medicine at the Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Dr. McVeigh opened his own practice in San Antonio.

Since the area’s last pulmonologist, Dr. Marie Cheryle Lingat, left last year, Wayne Memorial has been actively searching for a replacement. “Wayne Memorial has made a strong effort to recruit another pulmonary specialist to our area, and our efforts are thankfully paying off for the community,” says WMH Chief Executive Officer David Hoff. “We are very pleased that Dr. McVeigh is joining us. We are also very excited about his expertise in sleep medicine.”

Mr. Hoff anticipates dedicating several beds inside the Hospital to Dr. McVeigh’s sleep disorder patients.

Dr. McVeigh’s office is being set up on Park Street, across from the Hospital.
