The guests wore letter sweaters and poodle skirts, the tables were dotted with Pez candies and 45 rpm records. The 1950s came alive at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront in Tafton. The April 21st event honored close to 400 members of the community who voluntarily give their time and talents to the Hospital’s governing boards, its Auxiliary, its Hospice unit and more than 30 other Hospital departments. “We owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude for the work you do day in and day out” said David Hoff, Chief Executive Officer of Wayne Memorial Hospital. In 2005, Hospital volunteers, including the Auxiliary, put in close to 43,000 hours of service to WMH. Special awards were handed out to individuals who logged more than 1,000 hours in a 5-year period and to two groups, the Hideout Quilters (2,300 hours) and the Wallenpaupack Ladies Craft Club (5,000 hours).
