(Honesdale, May 23, 2007)… “You treat all ages in Family Practice medicine, and it’s a challenge I really enjoy,” says Joy Mendelsohn, MD. “I get to know people in the context of their families. It’s a very direct relationship between patients and staff.”

      Dr. Mendelsohn, who joins Highland Physicians Limited this month, is new to Pennsylvania but not the area. She’s been practicing Family Medicine just across the New York border for more than 20 years.  A resident of Cochecton in Sullivan County, Dr. Mendelsohn had been with Bethel Medical Center in White Lake, since 1982.  She was an attending physician at Catskill Regional Medical Center.

      A desire to be part of a larger practice was one reason Dr. Mendelsohn decided to join Highland, the largest Family Practice/Internal Medicine physician group in Wayne County.  

      “I have known Dr. (Jon) Sternburg (Highland Physicians) for a long time, and the people here seem very nice. I’m looking forward to working with the group.”

      Dr. Mendelsohn, who is originally from Wellsville, New York, attended Houghton College and Albany Medical College.  She completed her internship at the United States Public Health Service Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  A recipient of many awards over the years, particularly for community service, Dr. Mendelsohn was re-certified in Family Practice in 2006.   She is expected to be on the courtesy medical staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
