It’s a tradition at Wayne Memorial Hospital/Health System. When your time on the Board of Trustees is up, you can relax and enjoy a tradition: your very own rocking chair. Wayne Memorial CEO David Hoff and Board Chairman Helge Mortensen presented the farewell chairs to longtime board members John Burlein, VMD (1995-2007) and Bill Douglass (1992-2007). They were thanked for generously donating their time and experience. Burlein called his years at WMH “a very rewarding experience” and admitted he enjoyed it, despite the lengthy meetings and long nights. Burlein said the Hospital faces big challenges, including competition for services, rising healthcare costs and physician recruitment. Words of advice? “You can’t sit back and let things happen, you have to be pro-active. We accomplished a lot during my tenure—even the Hospital campus was significantly altered—but it’s important to always keep abreast of changes in healthcare.” Left to right: Bill Douglass, Hoff, Mortensen, Dr. Burlein.
