Click here for a larger view (Honesdale, April 24, 2008)… Non-profit groups seeking funding may qualify for a Community Mini-Grant from the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation (WMHF). The grants are geared towards organizations focused on “injury and disease prevention and treatment and the promotion of good health for the residents in the Wayne Memorial Health System service area.” That area includes Wayne and Pike Counties in Pennsylvania and southern Sullivan County, New York.
While the Foundation’s Community Health Committee, which approves the grants, may consider a broad range of projects for funding, each applicant must meet very specific criteria. Organizations must provide proof of their IRS’ 501(c) 3 tax-exempt status, submit their group’s non-discrimination policy and demonstrate that they are not providing unnecessary duplication of services in the community.
Applicants must also provide a written statement of their objectives, target population, anticipated benefits, activities and evaluation procedures. A full list of requirements may be obtained from the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation, 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 or by calling (570) 253-8272 or emailing garman@wmh.org.
The Mini-Grant Program, launched last year, has already helped several groups, including Wayne Highlands’ Communities That Care (CTC) After-School Swim Program for at-risk schoolchildren.
