Diabetes Management Project Graduation: How do you mark success with diabetes management? With great numbers! Certified Diabetes Educator Carol Kneier, MS, RD, just graduated her second Diabetes Care Management Pilot Project class. Among her 20 participants with diabetes (who came with nine support individuals), Kneier saw a 7% decrease in A1C values (blood test to determine a patient’s overall diabetes control) and a 5% decrease in lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL). What’s more, she says the total weight loss for the entire group was 124 pounds. The project was funded by the Blue Ribbon Foundation of Blue Cross NEPA. A third program starts July 15th. Instructors front row: Patty Walsh, MSW (WMCHC Behavioral Health); Terri Henderson, OT (WMH Rehabilitation Services); Tina Hoehn, Wayne County YMCA; Carol Kneier; Barbara Griggs-Pratt, MA, RD and Carol Folk, MS, RD (WMH Nutrition Services).
