"It wasn’t difficult getting people on board for this project,” said Jack Dennis, Wayne Memorial Hospital Grants and Development Manager, “because everyone felt this needs to be done.” Dennis is talking about the first ever bi-county study to examine the health and human services needs of Wayne and Pike County residents. Health assessments have been done before, Dennis added, but not in conjunction with human services—children and youth issues, elder abuse and other aging/elderly issues, maternal and family services, domestic violence and sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, public assistance/food stamps/medical assistance, adult literacy and others.
The Pike County Commissioners (pictured) presented a check for $3,000 to help fund the ground-breaking study, which will be completed by a company called HMS Associates. The project was initiated by Wayne Memorial Hospital with the help of United Way of Pike County. It won early support from the Pike County Commissioners.
