(July 28, 2008)… The Honesdale Family Health Center, part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC), is pleased to welcome Lawrence Wawrzyniec Stepczak, MD, to its staff. Dr. Stepczak, who worked most recently at Laurel Health System in Wellsboro, specializes in internal medicine. He made the move to Honesdale partly because of his heritage. Dr. Stepczak hails from Poland.

      “I am very happy to be here,” said Dr. Stepczak. “My family—my wife and two children—wanted to be closer to a larger Polish community. We found one in Scranton, and Honesdale is just up the road.”

      Dr. Stepczak received his medical degree from the Medical Academy of Poznan, Poland, in 1988.  Afterwards, he completed his internship and residency at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania. In addition to his position in Wellsboro, Dr. Stepczak also worked as a physician at Scranton Primary Health Care Center.

      A permanent U.S. resident, Dr. Stepczak will share duties at the Honesdale Family Health Center with Dr. Bradley Layton, Dr. Robert Dohner and Melissa Rickard, CRNP.

      WMCHC accepts all patients regardless of ability to pay. Its centers in Honesdale, Lakewood and Lords Valley take most private insurances and medical assistance and offer a sliding fee scale based on income.  WMCHC is funded in part through a grant from the US Department of Health Resources and Services Administration. The centers are clinically affiliated with Wayne Memorial Hospital but operate independently.
