“Success!” That’s how Carol Kneier, MS, RD, summed up the Diabetes Management Project at Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH).  “The program made a positive impact on the health of these people,” said Kneier, WMH Nutrition Services and Project Coordinator. Professionals in the fields of nutrition, exercise, medications and glucose monitoring helped make this team approach to lifestyle changes very beneficial. The numbers backed up the success with a drop in A1C values (blood test to determine a patient’s overall diabetes control), decrease in cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides, and overall weight loss for the fifty-five diabetics in one of the three series of classes. Participants in the project, funded by the Blue Ribbon Foundation/Blue Cross NEPA, at a recent reunion shared their success and struggle and encouraged each other to continue to live the healthy life style outlined by the Project.
