American Legion Auxiliary Post 311 in Hawley paid tribute to veterans this year in a special way. They chose to honor the heroism of the past by recognizing the hope of the future. “We decided to honor our veterans by honoring the first baby born on Veteran’s Day at Wayne Memorial Hospital,” said Auxiliary President Dana Wolf. At 7:34pm Dr. Catalina Dinu of Women’s Health Care delivered 7 pound 5 ounce Sharlet Riley Derrick, daughter of Kelly and Josh Derrick and sister to Bryce, Savannah and Sierra of Hawley. “This is a wonderful surprise,” said Kelly Derrick after receiving a beautiful gift basket and a savings bond. An active community organization, Auxiliary Post 311 also provides gift baskets to local families in need and care packages to veterans during the holiday season.
