 Quality in healthcare— it’s an attribute of leadership. That was one of the messages conveyed by nationally known speaker James Orlikoff to members of Wayne Memorial Hospital’s administration, board of trustees, physicians and staff. Orlikoff made a presentation and took questions during a day-long session at the Hospital on October 22nd.  For more than 25 years, the Chicago-based consultant has worked with hospital and system governing boards to strengthen their overall effectiveness and oversight of strategy and quality. “Many volunteer trustees are well versed in financial matters,” he told the Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) audience, “but not as much in quality issues. How do you measure and promote quality of service?”  One board member noted that WMH surveys its patients on service satisfaction through a national benchmarking firm called Press Ganey. “He was very interesting,” said Bill Schweighofer later of  Orlikoff’s remarks. Schweighofer, the President and CEO of Honesdale National Bank, has served on Wayne Memorial Hospital and Health System boards for more than a decade.  Orlikoff was invited to speak at the suggestion of  WMH Board Chairman Helge Mortensen.
