Click here for a larger view (Honesdale, December 9, 2008)…Forest City Regional School District has joined the Wayne Memorial In-School Winter Walking Program, bringing the total number of participating schools to eight. More than 500 people are registered for the program this year, including close to 40 in the Forest City area.
“The community has really taken to it,” says Kathleen Kaczka, Business Manager for the Forest City School District, “It’s wonderful.” Kaczka said the program will take place in the high school portion of the district’s school building.
The Winter Walking Program is a partnership between Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) and area school districts. From now through the end of March, participants can walk the halls of area schools Monday through Thursday from 6pm – 8pm. When schools are closed for any reason, walking is cancelled also.
The Winter Walking Program also offers periodic workshops on health and wellness.
Participating schools now include: Lakeside Elementary, RD Wilson Elementary, Western Wayne Middle/HS, Wallenpaupack Area HS, Wallenpaupack South in New Foundland, Damascus Elementary, Preston Area School and Forest City Regional School.
