(Honesdale, PA, February 6, 2009)— February is National Dental Health Month and the Together For Health Dental Center is raising awareness about the importance of good oral health. Every weekday during the month of February, Theresa Pfund, EFDA, has packed up her suitcase and headed out to where young children are found in Wayne and Pike Counties. “I tell the children why dental care is important and teach them how to care for their teeth and gums,” says Pfund, an Expanded Function Dental Assistant. The book Dudley the Dinosaur makes the message fun for the children but they all get excited when the puppet named Canine comes out of the suitcase. At Bethany Children’s House teacher Katie Brosky watched Conor, one of the three to five year olds, brush Canine’s big teeth as Pfund gave proper instructions. To help them get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums, each child receives a toothbrush, toothpaste and dinosaur dental floss. The visits are made possible by Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers and a grant from the Blue Ribbon Foundation of Blue Cross. The Together for Health Dental Center located in Honesdale treats both children and adults. To make an appointment call 570-251-6534.
