Click here for a larger view (Honesdale, February 6, 2009)… The much-anticipated Waymart Family Health Center opens officially for business on Monday, February 16th. Lawrence Stepczak, MD, board certified internist, will be available for patient visits Monday through Friday. The new center is part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (CHC), a federally qualified health center that offers healthcare to everyone. All the centers accept private insurance and public assistance and offer a sliding fee scale based on income.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to open a center and offer healthcare options closer to home for Waymart area residents,” said Dr. Stepczak. A native of Poland, Dr. Stepczak also sees patients at the Honesdale Family Health Center, which opened in January of 2008. Prior to that, Dr. Stepczak worked at Laurel Health System in Wellsboro. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Stepczak received his medical degree from the Medical Academy of Poznan, Poland, in 1988. Afterwards, he completed his internship and residency at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania. In addition to his position in Wellsboro, Dr. Stepczak also worked as a physician at Scranton Primary Health Care Center.
In addition to the Honesdale and Waymart Family Health Centers, CHC also has primary care centers in Lakewood in northern Wayne County and in Lords Valley in Pike County. It operates the Together for Health Dental Center and a behavioral health center, both in Honesdale. CHC, which is affiliated with Wayne Memorial Health System and funded in part through a grant from the US Department of Health Resources and Services Administration, has been expanding since it was launched in late 2007.
