(Honesdale, April 8, 2009)…Philip J. Hlavac, MD, a board certified neurosurgeon, is now seeing patients in Honesdale suffering back, neck or cranial problems and carpal tunnel. Dr. Hlavac, who also practices in Dunmore and Wilkes Barre, chose to open an office in Honesdale because of a need here. “At least 25% of my patients come from this area,” said Dr. Hlavac, “so it made sense to bring their care closer to home for them—back to the community they live in.”

       A graduate of Northwestern University in Illinois and Albany Medical College in New York State, Dr. Hlavac completed his residency in neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center.  A native of Illinois, Dr. Hlavac moved to northeastern Pennsylvania in 2003 to be closer to family.

      Experienced in performing many minimally invasive and new procedures, such as micro disc surgery, Dr. Hlavac looks forward to serving Wayne and Pike County residents.  Right now, he is restricting his Honesdale practice to office visits, but both he and Wayne Memorial hope one day in the future he can also perform surgeries at Wayne Memorial.  The hospital is in the process of evaluating the purchase of required equipment for back and neck surgeries.

      Dr. Hlavac’s office in Wayne Memorial’s Stourbridge Medical and Professional Complex on Maple Avenue, about a half mile west of Wayne Memorial Hospital, is currently open on the first Tuesday of every month. To make an appointment or for more information, call 570-558-3540.
