Wayne Memorial has a Burn Cart! A large-scale disaster with many burn victims could tax northeast Pennsylvania facilities. The only burn center in the region, the Lehigh Valley Regional Burn Center, has capacity for only 25 to 30 burn patients. Now, with the help of a $65,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Office of Public Health Preparedness and contributions from Emergency Medical Services of Northeastern Pennsylvania, burn carts have been distributed to 24 area hospitals, including Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH), and three mobile surge units. The carts contain antibacterial dressing (Anticoat), supplies to administer intravenous fluids, equipment to maintain a patient’s airway, gowns and gloves. The mobility of the cart allows it to be moved to a disaster scene. Cindy Lazorack, RN, Emergency Department Supervisor, is pictured with WMH’s new burn cart.
