The “Together for Health Program” is a unique partnership in our community, between Wayne Memorial Hospital and Forest City Regional School District, Wallenpaupack Area School District, Wayne Highlands School District and Western Wayne School District as well as many community organizations. Each year, more than 40 professionals assist with the Together for Health’s interactive program consisting of a three-part series emphasizing knowledge and skills for making healthy life style choices
Each year the program varies, however this previous year the program kicked off with a performance presented by Saltworks, a professional acting group from Wexford, Pennsylvania. The group's intense dramas based on actual stories about involvement with substances and chemical dependencies, shows the path to recovery. The second part was a clinical assessment by volunteers from the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital. All eleventh grade students had their height, weight, and blood pressure checked, and may also elected to have a blood sample analyzed for lipid profile and complete blood count at no cost to the students. Students participated in the blood draw only with parental permission, and the results remained confidential. All students received a copy of their individual lab results. A second copy was mailed to their parent or guardian. Each student also completed a Personal Wellness Profile and received an individual summary. The final component of “The Together for Health School Program” was the Health Resource Day. Students received their Personal Wellness Profile and results of previous testing. They attended the four workshops varying in important health topics. These workshops gave students an opportunity to talk to representatives from various community agencies and departments of Wayne Memorial Hospital.
In order to guarantee the health of the younger generation, Wayne Memorial Hospital ensures that together with local contributors and the four participating school districts, students have the one necessary aspect of staying healthy: education about what can be done, what should be done, and how to live a healthy life.
