Volunteers are an important and special part of Wayne Memorial Hospital. Their generous donations of time, energy and caring deeply touch patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Working as a hospital volunteer can also provide many rewards….

What does a WMH volunteer do?

There are many possible volunteer assignments available to that may meet your interests and skill level.

Volunteers may…..

 Greet and direct patients and visitors
 Provide clerical and general assistance in various hospital departments
 Escort patients throughout the facility
 Distribute patient mail
 Circulate the book cart throughout patient floors
 Be a friendly visitor to patients
 Provide general assistance to the nursing staff on patient floors

Are there different types of volunteers or different age groups that can volunteer?

There are different volunteer positions and programs offered at Wayne Memorial including:

1.) Adult Volunteers (ages 18 and up)

2.) Teen volunteers (ages 13 to 17)

3.) Special Project Volunteers (incorporate volunteer service into school/college projects)

4.) Hospice Volunteers (minimum age of 18 required, assist Hospice Team in delivering comfort care to patients during last stages of terminal illness)

How do you become a WMH Volunteer?

WMH’s Volunteer Coordinator will be your contact and assist you throughout the process. Some specifics include:

 Minimum age for teen volunteers is 13, no age limit for adults.
 Contact WMH Volunteer Services by telephone (570) 253-8737 or email malicky@wmh.org for an application or more information.
 An individual interview will allow for discussion about your interests, scheduling needs, etc.
 Attendance at a Volunteer Orientation will provide you with the necessary information about the hospital’s policies/procedures regarding volunteers, health/safety, infection control, confidentiality, etc.
 Touring the facility with the Volunteer Services staff will help you feel comfortable and more specific training related to your specific assignment will be provided.
